Space Camp
Covenant was very priviledged to be able to participate in Space Camp this year. Thirteen parents took a group of seventeen 3rd-7th graders to The US Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama for a weekend camp and had an absolute blast! We were able to expand our knowledge of space, try out many simulators used by real astronauts, participate in a mock mission to space, and even ride many gravity-defying rides! It was such a blessing to fellowship with a great group of kids and see them wonder at God's creation of our immaculate universe. Our highlight of the trip was winning the Space Bowl which occurred on the last day of the camp. Space Bowl was a question and answer session (much like jeopardy) that tested the knowledge of space facts and figures discussed throughout the weekend. Our students were not only few in numbers but also participated against students much older than they (most were middle and high school students). Our students represented us well by scoring a winning 16,000 points. The team that seconded us only had 5,000. It was a great opportunity to show our Lion Pride! This is most definitely a trip we will look forward to offering next year.

Honor Rolls
Congratulations to Katie Bingham in First Grade for being on the Headmaster's Honor Roll. Katie's name was inadvertently omitted from the list. We appreciate her hard work in achieving the goal of all A's. |

Elementary Service Project
Our spring service project for the Elementary Grades was a huge success! Our goal was to raise enough monies to purchase 2,000 diapers. We surpassed our goal by almost 1,000! Our total was 2,819 diapers. We are so excited about being able to present the Sheltering Tree ministry with this gift from our students. All the children signed a huge card which will be taken to a baby shower along with our check to purchase the diapers. |
BoxTops
Thank you parents for supporting our Box Tops for Education Program! General Mills contributed $278.70 to Covenant Christian School as a result of the box tops that our parents donated.

Preschool News
Two of our preschool classes (Mrs. Jane and Mrs. Whitney) focused on the spirit of giving during Easter celebration this month. Both classes brought in Easter goodies for under-priviledged children to support ASAP (After School Assistance Program) which serves our community by branching out to many local children. This photo celebrates the day we delivered the goodies to Ms. Terri and Ms. Keisha, representatives from the ASAP program. What a wonderful way to show the love of Christ! |
ELEMENTARY NEWS
K5-Mitchell
April has been an action packed month for Mrs. Mitchell's Kindergarten. Our celebration of Easter was a very special time of learning more about Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. We are studying miracles Jesus did on earth such as healing blind Bartimaeus and Jairius' daughter. Our God truly is an awesome God! We visited the strawberry farm and picked strawberries. It was a beautiful day! I think some in our class ate their weight in strawberries! We used adjectives (describing words) to tell about strawberries and we made strawberry shortcake with some of those delicious strawberries! In Math we're working on addition, subtraction, and money combinations (nickels and pennies). Reading Circles are going well and we are reading in special books on Fridays titled "Night Creatures". We have been studying weather and learned the order of colors in a rainbow. We also did a water experiment to learn about evaporation. I can't believe May is upon us--looking forward to another action packed month of school!
First Grade-Earnest
Where has the time gone? It is hard to believe that summer is only three weeks away. We have had a wonderful year in our first grade class. The students have really blossomed in their love of reading, their comprehension of important math concepts, and begun to understand in greater detail the way in which God works in our lives every day. Summer will be a time to continue to reinforce all those basic skills and knowledge that we have obtained in first grade. Even though it will be a time to have fun and relax, it will also be a time to continue to build on what we have learned. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents for their many hours of volunteer service over this past year. I certainly could not have done it without you!
First and Second Grade - Weber
First graders have been doing a great job this past month. We worked on using a graphic organizer to help focus our writing. They made wonderful paragraphs which are on display outside of my classroom. I am so proud of my students and of their efforts. Second graders have also been doing some writing as well. We began our chapter on writing make-believe stories. We are currently in the plannning stages of our stories, but I'm seeing some really creative characters being planned. The second graders have also been reading the Newberry Award winning Book, Dear Mr. Henshaw by: Beverly Cleary. We are really enjoying the book and have had discussions about how to make a "lunch box burglar alarm" which is something that the main character of the book invented. I have enjoyed teaching both of these classes so much. I can hardly believe how fast this year has gone by. I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer.
Second Grade-Martin
Second grade continues to be a time of learning and growing. We enjoyed learning how the disciples responded to Jesus after His death and resurrection and how the early church was started. We continued learning new multiplication and division tablels in Math. We also learned how to round numbers and estimate their sums. We even learned how to make change. In Social Studies, we finish studiing about the People who built America. We enjoyed learning how the colonists, early pioneers cowboys, and immigrants from other countries played a part. We ended our unit by having Genesis' mother, Mrs. Julin, come in and share about her home country, Cuba, and the reason why she moved to America from there. We are thankful to be Americans!
Third Grade-Street
Our third grade class did their country reports this month. We had been building up to this with centers on countries of the world - Geo Safari laptop, talking globe, world puzzle, atlases, and continent photos and map color sheets. We watched DVDs on different communities and countries. Each student put together a notebook and poster on their selected country. They gave a 3-5 minute speech and they brought food from their country. We enjoyed tasting it (all day long they grazed). We shared our food and projects with parents and school mates. They did an amazing job!! In math, we have started reducing fractions. We are learning how to find the factors and the greatest factor they have in common. In English they are writing book reports and will then make it into a book report mobile. In Bible the Israelites have arrived in Canaan and Joshua is now the leader. We are finishing up the Journey booklets we have been working on about the Israelites' experiences. All year they have been working on earning marbles for good behavior. For 10 marbles they receive an apple on the tree. When they get all of the apples on the tree they earn a surprise. They have all the apples, so for their surprise, they will be going to the Junior Museum. Great job third grade!!
Fourth Grade-Koebel
The month of April was the perfect time for the 4th grade's annual field trip to Tallahassee. This year we visited the Governor's mansion, which is a beautiful older home with impressive gardens. Next, we went to the capital building where we enjoyed the view from the highest point in Tallahassee. We had lunch in the capital's café, and then visited the House of Representatives, where our congressman, Jimmy Patronis, had Covenant's 4th graders recognized from the floor. Our next stop was by special invitation to see the Supreme Court. It was awesome. (Thank you Mr. Harrison) Lastly, we all enjoyed the Museum of Florida History before heading home - exhausted, but smarter.
Fifth Grade-Kent
Fifth grade students are on the go! We've taken field trips already and are excited about several more before we finish this year. We have some things planned for fun and education. We even have one that is especially for Mother's Day. Your students are well behaved when we leave campus and they do a good job of representing Covenant Christian School and more importantly, Jesus Christ when they go on these trips. They make me proud! |

Free Covenant Magnets
Show your Covenant Christian School Lion Pride! Do you have one of our school vehicle magnets? If not, please see Becki Swartz in the office or Debbi Earnest in Room 17. Your first magnet is free, and additional magnets may be purchased for $5.00. These are a great way to show our school spirit and advertise for the school. |
Uniform Shirts
Keep the Old Logo Shirts! The School Committee has endorsed the continued use of the "old" logo uniform shirts. Instead of asking families to order all new uniform shirts prior to next year, it was felt that as long as the "old" logo shirts continue to be in great condition that students should be allowed to wear them. Any orders for new uniforms will have the new Covenant logo. Our approved vendors for shirts are Lands End and KLW Sportswear.
Uniforms are available through Lands End and KLW only.
Please go to our website:
www.ccs-pc.net and the links to both should be there to place your orders on line. Please feel free to contact Becki Swartz with any questions. PE uniforms may still be ordered through the office.
